Suzuki Motability in Kent: Your 2026 Guide to Cars, Costs and the New Scheme Rules
TL;DR: The Motability Scheme lets eligible disabled people lease a brand new car by exchanging their weekly mobility allowance instead of paying monthly. In 2026/27 the qualifying allowance is usually the enhanced rate mobility part of PIP, worth £80.00 a week. Many Suzuki models can be leased with a small one off Advance Payment, and some need no Advance Payment at all. The lease is all inclusive, covering insurance for up to three drivers, servicing, breakdown cover and tyres. Important: new rules from 1 July 2026 changed the mileage allowance to 30,000 miles over a three year lease, updated tyre cover, and added VAT to most new Advance Payments. As Kent's local Suzuki Motability specialist, Humphries and Parks in West Malling can match you to the right car and handle everything. What is the Motability Scheme?
The Motability Scheme is a national programme that helps disabled people stay mobile. Instead of buying a car, you lease a brand new one for three years and pay for it using your government mobility allowance. Your allowance is paid straight to Motability Operations, and in return you drive away in a car that is taxed, insured and maintained for you.
It is run by Motability Operations Ltd on behalf of Motability, a registered charity. The idea is simple. You give up part or all of a weekly benefit you already receive, and you get a worry free car in exchange.
For many disabled drivers and their families in Kent, it is the most affordable and stress free way to run a reliable new vehicle.
Who is eligible for Motability in 2026?
To join the Scheme you need to receive a qualifying mobility allowance with at least 12 months left on your award. According to the Motability Scheme allowances page, the qualifying allowances are:
Enhanced rate mobility part of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Higher rate mobility part of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Enhanced rate mobility part of Adult Disability Payment (ADP), in Scotland
Higher rate mobility component of Child Disability Payment (CDP), in Scotland
Higher rate mobility component of Scottish Adult DLA
War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
You cannot join on the standard or lower rate mobility part, the daily living part of PIP, Attendance Allowance, Carer's Allowance or ESA. If you are unsure which rate you receive, the letter from the DWP or Social Security Scotland will tell you.
You do not have to be the driver. A parent, carer or family member can be named to drive on behalf of a child or someone who cannot drive themselves, which makes the Scheme useful for whole families.
How much does Suzuki Motability cost?
Here is the part that surprises people. For many cars, the weekly cost is simply your mobility allowance and nothing more.
The enhanced rate mobility part of PIP is worth £80.00 a week in 2026/27, based on the latest DWP benefit rates. That full amount goes to Motability, and for a large number of vehicles it covers the entire lease.
Some cars cost a little more than the allowance covers. For those, you pay a one off Advance Payment at the start of the lease. It is a single upfront sum, not a monthly charge, and you pay it once when you order.
Advance Payment prices are set by Motability every quarter and can change. For new orders placed from 1 July 2026 they now include VAT, so always check the current figure before you order. You can see live prices on our Suzuki Motability offers page.
What is included in a Suzuki Motability lease?
A Motability lease is genuinely all inclusive. Unlike normal car finance, you are not left to arrange insurance and servicing yourself. Every Suzuki leased through the Scheme comes with:
Insurance for up to three named drivers
Servicing, maintenance and MOTs
Breakdown cover through the RAC
Tyre and battery replacement within fair use
Road tax for the length of the lease
Dedicated support from your local dealer for the life of the lease
You put fuel or charge in it, keep it clean, and drive. Everything else is handled. For a disabled driver on a fixed income, that predictability is often worth as much as the car itself.
What changed on the Motability Scheme in July 2026?
This is the most important update in years, so it is worth getting right. Following tax changes announced in the Autumn Budget, VAT and Insurance Premium Tax now apply to most new Motability leases. Motability made several changes to keep the Scheme sustainable. The official Motability Scheme changes page, last updated on 8 July 2026, confirms the following for new orders placed on or after 1 July 2026:
Mileage allowance. New three year leases now include 30,000 miles, down from the previous 60,000. New five year WAV leases include 50,000 miles. Motability notes that the average customer drives around 7,500 miles a year, so most people stay within the limit, and you can pay for extra mileage if you need it.
Tyre replacement. New leases cover up to six tyres over three years, up to four of which can be for damage. Five year leases cover up to 10 tyres. Most customers replace two or fewer in a three year lease.
VAT on Advance Payments. Most new leases are now subject to VAT, which is reflected in Advance Payment prices from 1 July 2026.
EU breakdown cover. You now need a VE103 certificate to drive outside the UK, and a £22 admin fee applies to new orders. Fewer than 1% of customers used cover abroad in 2025.
Two points bring real reassurance. First, if you already have a lease, nothing changes for you until you renew. Second, insurance for up to three drivers, servicing, maintenance and breakdown cover in the UK all remain part of the package. Customers in Scotland who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland keep their existing package for now while discussions continue.
In plain terms: the Scheme is still excellent value, but the mileage cap is lower and premium cars cost a little more upfront than they did. That makes choosing the right model, and getting honest local advice, more important than ever.
Which Suzuki is best on Motability?
Suzuki is one of the most popular brands on the Scheme, and for good reason. The range is affordable, hybrid technology is standard across most models, and running costs are low. As Kent's Suzuki Motability specialist, here is how we guide customers.
Choose the Suzuki Swift if you want a nippy, economical supermini that is easy to park and cheap to run. It suits town driving around Maidstone and shorter commutes, and it often needs one of the lowest Advance Payments in the range. Our new Suzuki Swift review covers the latest model in detail.
Choose the Suzuki Ignis if you want a compact car with a higher seat and easier access, without stepping up to a full SUV.
Choose the Suzuki Vitara if you need a family SUV with a commanding driving position, a useful boot and the option of ALLGRIP four wheel drive for Kent's rural lanes. The Vitara is our most requested Motability model.
Choose the Suzuki S-Cross if you want the most interior and boot space for the money, ideal for growing families or wheelchair and mobility equipment.
Choose the Suzuki e Vitara if you are ready to go fully electric, or the Suzuki Across plug in hybrid if you cover longer distances and want to run on electric power around town.
If you are weighing up a used option alongside the Scheme, our guide to the best used cars for sale in Maidstone explains how the same models perform on the second hand market.

Frequently asked questions
Is Suzuki good for Motability? Yes. Suzuki is consistently one of the most popular Motability brands because most models offer hybrid economy as standard, low insurance groups and affordable Advance Payments. The Vitara, S-Cross, Swift and Ignis are all regular choices on the Scheme.
How much is the Motability allowance in 2026? The main qualifying allowance, the enhanced rate mobility part of PIP, is £80.00 a week in 2026/27. This is paid directly to Motability and covers the full lease on many cars.
Do I have to pay anything extra for a Motability car? For many models, no. Your weekly allowance covers everything. Some cars need a one off Advance Payment at the start, and premium models cost more. Insurance, servicing, breakdown cover and tyres are all included in the weekly price.
What happened to the 60,000 mile Motability limit? For new orders placed from 1 July 2026, the mileage allowance on a three year lease is now 30,000 miles rather than 60,000. If you already have a lease, your existing terms stay the same until you renew. You can pay to add extra mileage if you need it.
Can I get a Motability car if I cannot drive? Yes. You can name up to three drivers on the insurance, so a family member or carer can drive the car on your behalf. This is common for parents of disabled children and for older customers.
