Best Suzuki Cars 2026: Which Suzuki Should You Buy?

The short answer

The best Suzuki for most buyers in 2026 is the Vitara Hybrid. It is a proper compact SUV, it is available with ALLGRIP four-wheel drive, and after Suzuki's October price cut it starts from £21,999, which undercuts the Ford Puma and Renault Captur. If you want the cheapest, most economical Suzuki, buy the Swift (from £16,499, up to 64.2mpg). If you need the most space, choose the S-Cross (from £22,999). If you want an electric car, the e Vitara now starts from £24,999 with up to 264 miles of range.

The Swift, Vitara and S-Cross prices include customer savings of £3,500 to £5,300 that Suzuki says run until 31 December 2026. The e Vitara's lower price is permanent.

What Suzuki cars can you buy new in 2026?

Suzuki's UK new car range is now four models, all electrified. The Jimny, Ignis, Swace and Swift Sport were withdrawn from sale new in the UK by early 2025 to meet emissions rules, so you can only buy those used.

Which Suzuki car is best? Our pick for each type of driver

Best overall: Suzuki Vitara Hybrid

The Vitara is the Suzuki we recommend most often on the forecourt, because it suits the widest range of people. It sits higher than a hatchback, which older drivers and parents with child seats appreciate, and it is still compact enough for Maidstone town centre car parks. The 1.4 Boosterjet engine is punchy, and the ALLGRIP version is one of the few small SUVs you can buy with genuine four-wheel drive. That matters on the lanes around the North Downs in winter.

With £5,300 off until the end of 2026, the entry Vitara now costs less than many superminis. The honest drawback: the cabin is older than its rivals and uses a lot of hard plastics. If interior finish is your priority, sit in one before you decide.

Best small car and best value: Suzuki Swift

The Swift is the cheapest way into a new Suzuki and one of the 10 cheapest new cars in the UK after the October price cut. Its 1.2 three-cylinder mild hybrid engine returns up to 64.2mpg officially, it is light and easy to park, and it comes well equipped even in entry Motion trim. You can have it with a CVT automatic or with ALLGRIP four-wheel drive, which almost no rival supermini offers.

The trade-offs: it is not fast, and it scored three stars in Euro NCAP's 2024 test, largely because of how its driver assistance systems were scored. For a deeper look, read our full Suzuki Swift 2026 review.

Best family car: Suzuki S-Cross

If you regularly carry three or four people plus luggage, the S-Cross is the better choice than the Vitara. It is longer, the rear seats are roomier and it has the biggest boot in the Suzuki range. It drives in a calm, comfortable way, and with £5,050 off it starts from £22,999, which is a lot of car for the money compared with a Nissan Qashqai or Kia Sportage.

It is now five years old as a design, so the infotainment feels dated next to newer rivals. Most of our S-Cross customers tell us they care more about the space and the price.

Best electric car: Suzuki e Vitara

The e Vitara is Suzuki's first electric car and, after a £5,000 permanent price cut, it is far easier to recommend. The 49kWh model offers up to 213 miles of official range and the 61kWh model up to 264 miles. ALLGRIP-e adds a second motor for four-wheel drive, which is rare in an electric SUV of this size. Suzuki was also offering 0% APR finance over four years at the time of writing.

The weak point is the boot: 238 litres with the rear seats slid back, rising to 306 litres with them forward. That is smaller than the petrol Vitara. It also scored four stars in Euro NCAP. If you can charge at home and mostly drive within Kent, it is an excellent buy. If you cannot charge at home, a Vitara Hybrid will probably suit you better.

Best used Suzuki: Jimny (or Across for a plug-in hybrid)

The Jimny is no longer sold new in the UK, which is exactly why used examples hold their value so well. It is a genuine off-roader with a ladder chassis, but it is noisy on the motorway and has a tiny boot, so it suits enthusiasts more than commuters. Read our guide to buying a used Suzuki Jimny in Kent before you buy one.

The Across is a plug-in hybrid SUV built in partnership with Toyota (it shares its engineering with the RAV4 PHEV). It is no longer part of Suzuki's current new car offers, but a used one gives you strong electric-only range for school runs with a petrol engine for long trips.

Are Suzuki cars reliable?

Yes. Suzuki is one of the most reliable car brands in the UK according to owners. In the 2026 Auto Express Driver Power survey, Suzuki ranked 6th out of 30 brands for reliability with a score of 89.74%, ahead of Tesla, Skoda, Vauxhall and Peugeot, and well ahead of brands such as MG and Dacia.

There are good engineering reasons for this. Suzuki's mild hybrid system is simple, using a small 12-volt starter-generator rather than a large battery pack, and its petrol engines are well proven. The main complaint owners raise is interior fit and finish rather than breakdowns.

Suzuki also offers a Service Activated Warranty that can extend cover up to 10 years or 100,000 miles, as long as the car is serviced at a Suzuki dealer. We explain how it works in our guide to car servicing and MOTs in Maidstone.

Which Suzuki is best for specific needs?

  • Best Suzuki for a first car: Swift Motion. Cheap to buy, low insurance group and simple to drive.
  • Best Suzuki 4x4: Vitara ALLGRIP for everyday use; a used Jimny for serious off-road.
  • Best Suzuki hybrid: Vitara Hybrid for most people. All three petrol models are mild hybrids.
  • Best Suzuki on Motability: the e Vitara 49kWh Motion was available with nil advance payment at the time of writing. See our Suzuki Motability guide.
  • Best Suzuki for NHS and blue light workers: any model, because Suzuki's public sector scheme applies across the range. Our Suzuki Blue Light discount guide explains what you save.

Should you buy a new or used Suzuki?

For the Swift, Vitara and S-Cross, the current discounts narrow the gap between new and nearly new, so it is worth pricing both. A new car gets the full manufacturer warranty and the 0% or low-rate finance offers. A used Suzuki makes more sense if you want a model that is no longer sold new, such as the Jimny, Ignis or Across, or if your budget is under £15,000.

Every used car we sell at Humphries & Parks comes with a 120-point inspection, a six-month warranty and at least six months' MOT. You can browse our used Suzuki stock in West Malling, and if you are deciding how to pay, our PCP vs HP guide explains the difference in plain English.

Is the Suzuki e Vitara a good car?

Do Suzuki hybrids need charging?

No. The Swift, Vitara and S-Cross are mild hybrids that recharge themselves while you drive. Only the e Vitara (electric) and the used Across (plug-in hybrid) need plugging in.
